STEPS Program

The TCU Office of Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce our STEPS program.  This program is designed to assist all full time faculty and professors of practice to successfully identify grants and funding opportunities; meet with grant and funding officials; and develop fundable proposals.

This seven-step interactive program is open to all full time faculty and professors of practice in liberal arts, communications, fine arts, education, social sciences, science and engineering, nursing, health, medical, business and interdisciplinary studies. Projects may involve research, teaching, clinical or service activities. The project should be germane to your career interests and to your role in the mission of your department.

Faculty enrolled in the STEPS program will

  • Learn about the grants and funding process and TCU research policies and procedures
  • Identify available federal, state, local and private sector grants / funding
  • Gain insight into sponsor funding trends and approaches by being introduced on how to meet with program officers at NSF, NIH, Grant Resource Center and other agency driven sponsors
  • Develop successful grant and proposal writing skills
  • Complete a proposal specific to your funding needs
  • Receive assistance with pre-review of developed proposal by utilizing internal and / or external reviewers
  • Learn about the research regulatory requirements and TCU polices surrounding research compliance
  • Submit a completed proposal to an external funding agency or foundation

Participants in the program must

  • Obtain the approval of their Chair
  • Commit to seven months of approximately four hours per month of cohort and / or individual one on one meeting / mentoring time
  • Schedule sufficient time to identify appropriate funding opportunities, develop research project goals / specific aims and develop a cohesive proposal for submission to external sponsor(s)
  • Undergo appropriate research compliance training including research ethics
  • Submit completed proposal to external sponsor
